Travelers Guide to Philadelphia in October

Philadelphia Expo Center

There is never a dull moment in Philadelphia and October is an especially happening month. The Greater Philadelphia Expo Center at Oaks is the host of many of the region’s top events. All you need to do is check out the events calendar and you are sure to find an event that suits your tastes and preferences. With the changing leaves and the beauty of fall in the Northeast on full display, October is the perfect time to visit Philly.

Here is everything that you need to know about what is going on this time of year and how to make the most out of your visit.

The packed October calendar at this popular expo center offers something for everyone. Gun enthusiasts will appreciate the exhibits and merchandise at the Eagle Arms Weapons Show, scheduled for October 4, 5, and 6.

Families will delight in the Comic-Con for Kids expo. This pop culture event brings the fun of cosplay, gaming, and new technologies together to deliver an entertaining weekend for all ages. A variety of meet and greets with characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Black Panther, and Captain America will be a real highlight of the event that takes place on October 12 and 13.

If you love finding great deals and unique items, then you’ve got to visit the Market Square Show. This market is geared toward wholesalers, so you’ll get the most bang for your buck if you’re in the retail world, but if you’re just looking for a retail event to satisfy your curiosity, this marketplace has been operating since 1989 and features some of the best items ranging from traditional crafts to gifts and furniture.

Philadelphia Expo Center

With its convenient location in the suburb of Oaks, the Philly Expo Center is easy to reach from a variety of points. The center boasts over 5,000 free parking spaces for visitor convenience.

The best place to stay when attending an event at the Philly Expo Center is one of the many hotels in King of Prussia. The Hyatt House Philadelphia/King of Prussia features comfortable guest rooms, complimentary breakfast to get your day off on the right foot, and an indoor pool and fitness center. Another good choice is the Crowne Plaza Philadelphia in King of Prussia. It has a convenient location across the street from the popular King of Prussia Mall and offers guests many convenient amenities.

While in the King of Prussia area, be sure to pay a visit to the Valley Forge Historical Park, commemorating the Continental Army’s sacrifice during a brutal winter encampment. The Revolutionary-era soldiers faced freezing while battling for the nation’s freedom in 1777 and 1778. The nearby Bury the Hatchet is a unique way to spend some time as you learn how to throw an ax and then take your skills to compete with friends and family.

It is easy to find a bite to eat when visiting the greater Philly area. While in King of Prussia and Oaks, be sure to stop by Founding Farmers for a delicious breakfast, lunch, or dinner. This trendy joint focuses on farm to table fare using only the freshest locally sourced ingredients. For a fun night out on the town, make the Workhorse Brewing Company part of your travel itinerary. As King of Prussia’s only craft brewery, Workhorse is a great place to grab a pint and a bite to eat from one of the rotating food trucks.
